American actor and musician Awkwafina began her career with hilarious hip-hop tracks that addressed sexuality and racial identities with a an incisive and humorous perspective, before expanding her reach into Hollywood. Nora Lum began her musical journey as a trumpet player. Born in Forest Hills Queens, she was a child of Chinese immigrants and Korean immigrants. Following her Jazz and classical training She delved into hip-hop in her teen years. In the college years, she remained focused on her studies, and then studied women's studies as well as journalism. In a short period of time in Beijing, Mandarin language classes were offered as well. She didn't start focusing on music until after she completed her degree.
