MelissaMelissa Crystal O'Neil was born on the 12th of July, 1988.] She is a Canadian singer and actress. O'Neil, the first Canadian female winner of Canadian Idol's third season, took home the trophy in 2005. In her role as an actress, she is famous for her performances as Two and Rebecca / Portia Lin in the Syfy science fiction show Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama series The Rookie.Although she was highly praised by the judges, O'Neil experienced major setbacks in both the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals because she was in the bottom three and the bottom two as well as the bottom two. After being shocked, judges asked viewers to vote for Melissa, who was clearly the most enthusiastic contestant. Then, O'Neil never fell back into the bottom three of the rankings after delivering consistently praised performances, with judge Zack Werner declaring that she was "a potential winner of the entire competition". O'Neil together with Rex Goudie, made it to the finals on September 7th in 2005. Werner, a judge famously stated that the headlines of the following day's news will be "The King [Kalan Porter] has passed away. The Queen will live forever." In the grand final results show on the 14th of September in 2005, O'Neil defeated Goudie to become the third Canadian Idol, as well as the first female winner, as well as (at 17) the youngest contestant in history.
